Janaki Larsen Studios

Commissioned by Obakki, I spent a morning inside Janaki Larsen’s Vancouver studio, photographing the space where her ceramics are made.

There’s something beautifully imperfect about Janaki’s work, and the studio carries that same feeling — shelves filled with pieces in different stages, clay-covered surfaces, tools left where they’re used, and small traces of the making process everywhere. Rather than over-directing the shoot, I wanted to document the space as I found it and capture Janaki naturally at work.

Below the windows are stacked weathered buckets and a large pile of white bags.
